How to remove pet stains using items you already have in the house

Young children and pets provide huge challenges to carpet owners. The messes they can't help but make have a strong tendency to stain -- and smell -- badly. Fortunately for those of us with this kind of love in our lives, there is a simple way to deal with both the stains and the smells.

DeeDee, author of Clover House, has a 16-year-old dog named Trevor whose advanced age sometimes prevents him from making it outdoors to potty. She found a method, using only liquid dish soap and hydrogen peroxide, of scrubbing away Trevor's accidents with no trace of stain or odor.

The solution uses a 1:1 ratio of dish soap to hydrogen peroxide; DeeDee's current problem is an area large enough to require 1/4 cup of each. 

It's as simple as that! Liquid dish soap and hydrogen peroxide make it possible for parents with messy kiddos -- whether they're wearing diapers or a fur coat -- to handle carpet accidents with minimal effort and expense.

Soap and peroxide can also be used with table salt to deep clean a mattress, and with baking soda to remove yellow armpit stains or to de-skunk your dog. All are simple, inexpensive solutions to big household problems.
